What's New at CQ 3/11/25

Dear Friends,

While we don't have any "new" classes to tell you about, we have scheduled some additional sessions of our most popular classes: Ruler Work for Domestic Machines, Walking Foot 101, and Scrap Petal Garden. Remember to let me know of any classes you'd like to see. I'll do what I can to make them happen.

There are other, new classes in the works, but they haven't been finalized yet. Life gets in the way sometimes.

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

ps. We will continue collecting old sneakers through the month of March. There is a tub just inside the front door for dropping them off. Please be sure to follow the posted guidelines: sneakers ONLY, dirty is OK, ripped, holey, or soles coming off is not.

Products

We've gotten in some patterns from Lo & Behold Stitchery. Most have options for either modern or traditional colorways.

Remember Robo Boogie by Sugaridoo? Well, we've made 2.5" strips and 5" charm squares from them!

Binding your project with a little extra flair has never been easier! This AccuQuilt die features the two strips you need to create a fun machine binding with two different fabrics. What could be better?

We've also gotten in two new Robin Pickens patterns.

Classes

March's Get it Done! is scheduled for 3/15. Come in for four blissful hours of distraction-free sewing. And, if you need a little help, Kat will be here to get you over those creative bumps in the road.

Come in on 3/19 to work on Quilts for Kids. All fabric is provided. These quilts are donated to local kids in need. Lots of fun is always the rule in our free Capital Quilts workshops. Different patterns are used each month.

Inspired by the famous Ikea blue bag, Elizabeth made her own Big Show and Tell Bag, and wants to teach you how to make it on 3/30. This is a roomy tote bag with 2 way handles to carry all your large quilty projects and treasured quilts. Minimal cutting and straight sewing. Fully lined, with no birthing! ONE seat is currently available.

Betsy has added THREE Walking Foot 101 classes to the calendar: April 13, June 29, and July 27th. In class, you will install your walking foot, test thread tension, learn several methods for marking a design on your quilt sandwich, and fill six squares with different walking foot designs.

Awed by the way her first class filled up, Linda is teaching the Reversible Bucket Hat again on 4/30. In class you will have the option to cut out your fabric by hand, or you can use the Accuquilt die. The pattern is included with the class.

Betsy has also scheduled Ruler Work for Domestic machines starting on 5/3. Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week class, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs. The class will cover setting up your machine for ruler work, testing tension, and getting started. Each week you’ll make one or two blocks with practice fabric during class; between each class you’ll reproduce the blocks with your sampler fabric. At the end, you’ll learn a quilt-as-you-go method for joining the blocks together. This class fills quickly, so don't delay in signing up if you are interested.

Celebrate May Day by making your very own Scrap Petal Garden! Kat teaches this popular pattern starting on May 1st. Class is loads of fun as students weigh in on fabric choices and layouts. Scrappy background kits are available!

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
