What's New at CQ 5/13/2025

Dear Friends,

When we held our Happy Feet Sneakers class last year, some of you were disappointed that there weren't more seats. Well, we're having Joan come and teach the class again, and have booked TWO sessions AND a Studio Day! Choose to take a class on either 8/1 or 8/2. 8/3 is the Happy Feet Studio Day, designed for those who may need some additional time with Joan and her tools.

I recently saw a neat new gadget! It's about the size of a pair of small scissors, and has a magnet to pick up pins. The really cool part is that you can then release the pins into a bowl without using both hands! Is this notion something you might be interested in?

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

Issue 34 of Quiltfolk: Arkansas has arrived!

This state embraces the arts, from folk music and storytelling to quilting—a cherished craft passed down through generations. Whether preserving tradition or pushing boundaries, quilters continue to stitch Arkansas’s story into fabric. The land, its people, and the soulful blues of the Delta inspire colors, patterns, and themes, and each quilt carries echoes of the state that inspired it.

You'll love using this unique leaf-like, textural print for the back of your next quilt!  Or how about making some new curtains or duvet cover!

The OLFA 45mm RTY-2C/LGR Quick-Change Rotary Cutter in lime green is a great option for quick fabric cutting in all of your sewing and quilting projects. Increase your productivity by cutting easily through up to eight layers of cotton fabric at a time. The contoured handle with integrated finger grooves makes for comfortable cutting. The blade guard extends to cover the sharp edge when the cutter is not in use. Blade changes are simple and fast with the Quick-Change system, allowing the blade to be swapped out at the push of a lever.

Classes

The next Longarm Rental Certification class is being held on the 22nd. This class prepares you to rent our HandiQuilter Longarm Machines.

And, if you are interested in using the computer for your rental, you'll need to take the Prostitcher Premium Rental Class on 5/23 as well.

We are holding our Quilts for Kids Charity sewing workshop on 5/14. All of our charity workshops are free, but you must register as space is limited. Quilts are currently being donated to Comfort Cases for kids in the foster system.

We are probably all guilty of falling in love with a charm pack and buying it, then not knowing what to do with it! Why not use it in Elizabeth's class? Take ONE charm pack and two yards of background fabric to make this NO WASTE quilt with minimal cutting.  Learn “web” piecing to make this quilt even faster. Come join the fun in making a throw size quilt, approximately 55 inches by 55 inches with just one charm pack. Don't have a charm pack? No worries! Use your stash to cut forty-two 5" squares.

Students will leave class with all the skills necessary to complete this Quick and Easy Charm Quilt top at home. This class is TWO sessions, starting 5/21.

Jan is obsessed with making these little Americana Flags, constructed with Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). She says that this small project (10 3/4 x 13 3/4) is a perfect one to learn the technique with. You'll be amazed by how easy and precise it is! You can use scraps or fat quarters, and you will gain a skill that will open up a whole other world of patterns. Jan is teaching Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing on Sunday, June 8.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
