What's New at CQ 5/20/2025

Dear Friends,

Wow, that was fast! Both Happy Feet classes are sold out, and we already have a waiting list. Thank you all for responding promptly. If you secured a seat in class, Kat will be contacting you shortly for your sizing information so that your soles can be ordered.

Happy Sewing!

Products

Let your dark side come out with the imaginary world of Gothic Whimsy, where skulls, crows, bats and black cats mix with nature and flowers. For those of us who think skulls are not just for Halloween.

Bright Frights is a spooky Halloween collection designed by Catriona Crehan for Robert Kaufman. Spooky skulls, cute ghosts, and creepy pumpkins in a neon color palette. I've brought in the panel and two coordinates; it'll be easy to add coordinating blenders from the color wall.

Ariga Wilson wrote a cute pattern for the panel!

Classes

If you've a desire to learn to use our longarms, and you have a few free hours Thursday (5/22) morning, you should sign up NOW for the Getting Started: Longarm Rental Class! The next offering of this class is on June 9th.

Like the idea of renting, but not happy with your free motion skills? You'll want to take Getting Started: Prostitcher Premium on 5/23.

Jan is obsessed with making these little Americana Flags, constructed with Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). She says that this small project (10 3/4 x 13 3/4) is a perfect one to learn the technique with. You'll be amazed by how easy and precise it is! You can use scraps or fat quarters, and you will gain a skill that will open up a whole other world of patterns. Jan is teaching Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing on Sunday, June 8.

The next CQ Cares: Quilts for Kids workshop is scheduled for 6/11. Join the group to make quilts what will be donated locally. It's a lot of fun!

Our Quilts of Valor group meets on 6/16 to work on a quilt for a veteran touched by war. Please register for either the morning or the afternoon session, as space is limited.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

For those who want to sew placemats for Meals on Wheels and/or Iona House from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern. We also have free kits in the shop.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disaster. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
