What's New at CQ 10/7/24

Dear Friends,

Happy October! We are celebrating the season with an "Octoberfest Sale" this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (October 10-12, 2025). All regularly priced merchandise* will be 20% off with Coupon Code K2025FEST, in-store or online!

Don't miss this one, and don't wait to come in. Do you remember those gorgeous Annabel Wrigley widebacks we introduced last week? We've already sold out of one of them!

 Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

*Some exclusions apply: Machines, AccuQuilt, Services (including longarm quilting, classes, and machine maintenance/repair), special orders, clearance, retired shop models, and anything already marked down. Discounts may not be stacked or combined in any way.

ps. There has been some confusion lately about the dropping off of quilt tops for sandwiching. Please be advised that your materials need to be dropped off at the store the DAY BEFORE your "appointment". We will baste the quilt for you, and contact you when it is ready to be picked up. Your presence is not needed at the appointment time. We know the system sends out a "class reminder", and that it does cause some confusion. If you have any questions about the sandwiching process, please ask! Thanks!

Products

Celebrate Halloween's thrills and chills with the spooky and unique Jeepers Creepers patch panel from Quilting Treasures Fabrics! This fabric is digitally printed, giving it brighter, more vibrant colors and beautiful detail not available in traditional, screen-printed fabrics. This enchanting black panel features spooky/silly blocks adorned with intricate Halloween characters. Panel measures approximately 36" x 43".

For some, cardinals and chickadees are what winter is all about. Snowbirds by Two Can Arts for Andover Fabrics celebrates this with a delightful panel. We've brought in two coordinates as well.

Celebrate Christmas with Scandi style. These four prints work together for a traditional red & green Christmas quilt, but they also work as Christmas blenders. Either way, you won't go wrong.

If you liked last week's Garden at Twilight, you'll probably be interested in Inkwell from Robert Kaufman. Inkwell features bold geometric designs that will make any quilt a statement piece. Pair these striking black and white prints with a bold solid for maximum impact.

We've brought in more Klimt from Robert Kaufman! There is a panel, Lady with Fan, and three new blenders to go with it. We've also restocked the popular Lake Scene.

Lewis and Irene has sent us Old Quercus. Quercus is the Latin name for the genus that encompasses the diverse family of oak trees, renowned for their strength and longevity. This collection includes some of the natural diversity that lives in harmony with the oak trees. Owls, foxes, squirrels, and acorns all feature in the designs. The colors mirror the changing hues of Autumn, a season where oaks leaves change, and evoke the nostalgic ambiance of an Autumnal woodland walk.

The GO! Bolt is AccuQuilt’s most compact, affordable electric fabric cutter, designed for makers who value speed, accuracy and convenience. You will get precise cuts every time with this lightweight, budget-friendly cutting system.

For you batik lovers, there are six bolts from Kaufman's Serene Bouquet.

Have you seen Betsy's videos on our You Tube page? These self-threading needles are another product that she uses in them.

Make your own design wall! This handy fabric from Maywood is perfect for arranging and rearranging quilt blocks as you make your quilts. It has "surface tension" built in to hold your blocks in place and the pre-printed 2 inch grid makes it easy to keep everything properly aligned.

Classes

Gather up all your unfinished sewing on 10/10 and bring it to Capital Quilts.  Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE!  Kat will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support.

Join us to make a Quilt of Valor!

These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just register for the workshop on October 13th, bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy!

The Adventureland Quilt is a fast and easy strip piecing design that is perfect for the confident beginner, or a seasoned quilter that wants a quick baby/throw  quilt to gift. The pattern provides for baby, throw, twin and queen sizes and uses a jelly roll or yardage.

Class starts 10/14, and the last session will be a bonus project to use up the scraps leftover from the Adventureland Quilt. The project is a Scottie Dog pattern using 2.5” squares to form an adorable Scottie stuffed animal.

Weave strips of fabric together to create a snowflake ornament to hang on the tree, a wreath, the mantle, or other decorative endeavor! You can also use these snowflakes in place of a bow on a gift. Once you know how you'll want to make more. We will provide each student with a pattern and ONE kit to make in class. Debra B leads the way on October 18th.

Betsy firmly believes that the Ruby Apron is perfect for anyone -- with a few modifications. It looks fantastic in any striped fabric, but you can also mix it with prints or solids for the bib, straps, and pocket facing. The straps cross over at the back like a French smock apron. The pattern has an optional back belt, but you can use ties instead.

In the first class session on 10/18, we will focus on fabric and design options, so you can choose your customizations. Then we will prepare the pattern pieces so you can cut them out at home. You don’t need to have your fabric selected when class starts – there will be time to shop during class when you have selected your customizations. In the second class, we will sew the pieces together to make a finished apron.

Feeling overwhelmed by life’s stresses?

Discover the joy of calming your mind through the art of making.

Quilt artist and mindfulness teacher Lauren Kingsland offers a fresh approach to managing stress and finding peace through hands-on creativity. Her recent book Hands On Mindfulness is included in the class, and is the perfect guide for finding an accessible, joyful path to mindfulness through the creative process.

Join her at Capital Quilts on October 20th, when she will guide you through making your own labyrinth or spiral piece by hand, and talk about how you can incorporate mindfulness into your creativity through handwork.

The H Bag is amazing! It is easy to make, comes in two sizes (Regular and Jumbo), and it is so versatile that you will be amazed at all the different things you will be carrying with it. It's perfect for the farmer's market, the beach, or carrying your sewing projects! Cathy will show you how on October 25th. Only one seat left!

Starting November 4th, join Debra in making this beautiful double wedding ring quilt. Sew Kind of Wonderful makes it easy using 2 1/2 inch strips and the QCR tool.

Laurie is teaching another hand-piecing class. In this class you will make a 40" Mariner's Compass Medallion, suitable for a wall hanging. If you are interested in expanding your piece into a larger quilt, Laurie can make suggestions for borders! Class Starts November 7th.

Please note that we will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 27th in observance on Thanksgiving.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have placemat kits available at the shop; please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disasters. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
