What's New at CQ 10/21/25

Dear Friends,

This past weekend's Woven Snowflake Ornament class was a big hit! What other classes can we offer to get you ready for the holidays?

I just put a tree skirt class on the calendar. Debra Ball is teaching it, and it uses an AccuQuilt die! It's ok if you don't have an AccuQuilt machine. You can use one in class OR buy a pre-cut kit!

I've been thinking about a Demo Day filled with quick and easy projects like napkins, leashes, collars, and key fobs. Interested? What other types of projects would you like to see?

 Happy Sewing!

We have a Christmas collection that just came in! Santa's Workshop by the Morris Design Group for QT Fabrics incorporates intricate details and a touch of nostalgia. Santa, Mrs. Claus, snowmen, reindeer, and wooden toys appear in varied design layouts giving you a plethora of project possibilities. There are two panels and a border stripe as well!

Also from QT Fabrics is this adorable Jungle Friends Counting Soft Book panel! Instructions of how to put it together are printed right on the  panel.

Next, we have batiks from Riley Blake. Yum!

Anthology also sent some batiks.

And from Timeless Treasures, we have this glorious patriotic panel.

Classes

The H Bag is amazing! It is easy to make, comes in two sizes (Regular and Jumbo), and it is so versatile that you will be amazed at all the different things you will be carrying with it. It's perfect for the farmer's market, the beach, or carrying your sewing projects! Cathy will show you how on October 25th. Only one seat left!

Starting November 4th, join Debra in making this beautiful double wedding ring quilt. Sew Kind of Wonderful makes it easy using 2 1/2 inch strips and the QCR tool.

Laurie is teaching another hand-piecing class. In this class you will make a 40" Mariner's Compass Medallion, suitable for a wall hanging. If you are interested in expanding your piece into a larger quilt, Laurie can make suggestions for borders! Class Starts November 7th.

On the evening of the 7th, settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos.

There are seats available in the afternoon session of CQ Cares: Quilt of Valor Workshop on November 10th. These quilts are valued by the veterans they are awarded to. Please join us to work on one together!

There is only one space open in the Quilts for Kids workshop on 11/12.

On November 15th, put your walking foot to work and watch it travel miles and miles of stitching! Learn the basics of using your walking foot by making six sample blocks. In this class,  you will: install your walking foot, test thread tension, learn to start and stop; learn several methods for marking a design on your quilt sandwich; and fill six squares with different walking foot designs: straight lines, regular grids, irregular grids, triangles, curves, and spirals.

Please note that we will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 27th in observance of Thanksgiving, and will close at 3PM on the 26th.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have placemat kits available at the shop; please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disasters. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
