What's New at CQ 11/18/2025

Dear Friends,

Demo Day on December 6th is now live for registrations! Please register for the sessions you plan on attending so that we can plan accordingly:

We will be covering:

How to use Accuquilt, a review of some dies, and pattern tips

     Getting started with EPP

How to make one-of-a-kind dog leashes & collars

     Quick & easy cloth napkins

     Custom key fobs

Another great, quick gift idea is bowl cozies. There are patterns all over the internet, but we like this one from American Patchwork and Quilting.

 Happy Sewing!

Products

Lewis & Irene has sent us Sky Garden by Cassandra Connolly. This enchanting collection features delicate florals and tiny leaves drifting across soft backgrounds. Gentle shades of pink, green, taupe, and cream come together with touches of periwinkle to create a palette that feels calm, fresh, and versatile.

I have a love of cork fabric. It's versitile, water resistant, sustainable, and so pretty! Here are some of the latest designs I've brought in:

I don't try to hide the fact that my sense of humor is a little... different. In that vein, I'd like to introduce you to two new patterns that just make me smile. The first is Dinorama - T-Rex on Roller Skates!

If dinosaurs aren't your thing, maybe Knitted for Ewe will tickle your fancy.

I've also brought in two new patterns from Sew Kind of Wonderful: Quittles Tusker and Solarium.  Quittles Tusker is made with the Wonder Curve Ruler and finishes at 54" square. So cute!

Solarium uses the Quick Straight Ruler, and finishes 84" square.

Classes

There is still room available in the Holiday Tree Skirt on 11/22. You can use either our pre-cut kits, or choose your own fabric and cut it on our Accuquilt machine in class!

November's Get it Done! is also on the 22nd. Gather up all your unfinished sewing and bring it to Capital Quilts. Enjoy time you can dedicate to getting those projects DONE! Kat will be here to offer suggestions, guidance, and support.

Registration for 2026 Second Saturday is now open, and the project has been revealed: Dancing Dresdens! It will be co-taught by Jan and Betsy.

Dresden plates are such happy blocks! Not only are they fun to stitch, but they can be made into so many useful items, from full-size quilts to throws to table runners to pillows to totes. We’ll be working from Candyce Copp Grisham’s book, Dresden Quilt Blocks Reimagined, to make Dresdens with different edge finishes, plain and pieced wedges, and different sizes. These Dresdens have turned edges, so they are super-easy to machine-stitch into place. Each Dresden can stand alone or be layered for a fun, dancing effect.

To make a sampler quilt (like the example), we’ll show you how to pre-quilt a sandwich with your walking foot, appliqué the Dresden into place, and assemble the quilted blocks using the quilt-as-you-go gusset & cover strip method.

The English Paper Piecing Club is also open for 2026 registrations. Next year, they will welcome other handwork as well: embroidery, applique, crochet, knitting, etc.

CQ Cares workshops: Quilts of Valor and Quilts for Kids sessions have been scheduled for 2026.

Please note that we will be CLOSED on Thursday, November 27th in observance of Thanksgiving, and will close at 3PM on the 26th.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have placemat kits available at the shop; please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disasters. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
