What's New at CQ 2/17/26

Dear Friends,

Are you an Instagram user? Personally, I use Instagram for inspiration, much like an entertaining sort of Pinterest, but I never post. And I have problems finding things again that I liked. So I like it, but struggle with it as well.

I know that the "younger crowd" uses it all the time, and I've seen some of our customers and instructors posting a lot, who have obviously adapted to it.

Do you use Instagram? I am curious as to what you use it for? Do you post your quilts? Do you follow other quilters? Other quilt shops?

Happy Sewing!

Coastal Walk by Karen Lewis for Andover Fabrics is inspired by the artist's favorite thing…coastal walks! She is happiest when walking along the beach, through the sand dunes or high up on the cliffs breathing in the sea air. The collection is made up of seven different prints in four colorways all evocative of the sights and smells of being by the coast.

Do you love the snarky labels from Kylie and the Machine as much as I do? We've restocked, and brought in some new ones...

Celebrate the USA's 250th anniversary with Linda Ludovico's America 250 Canvas Bag Panel from Northcott. Instructions are printed on it.

Are your pets rotten? Do they deserve to be in jail? Maybe you can "scare them to be good" with these hilarious mugshot fabrics from Timeless Treasures!

Classes

Save your back and your knees by letting us baste your quilt for you! We have a sandwiching service "appointment" open on February 24th.

Relax on the evening of Friday, March 6th with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos. Often, small challenges are put out to the group.

Five seats are available in the March 16 Quilt of Valor Workshop. All fabric is provided, simply register, bring your machine & sewing toolkit, and join the group to make a quilt for a veteran!

If you've ever thought that you'd like to learn to longarm, now is the time! Cynthia is offering Getting Started: Long Arm Rental on March 17th.

If you want to use the computer for stitching instead of free motion, you will also need to take Getting Started: ProStitcher Premium on the 17th.

Jan wants you to know that the Adventureland Quilt is a fast and easy strip piecing design, perfect for the confident beginner or a seasoned quilter that wants a quick baby/throw  quilt to gift. The pattern provides for multiple sizes and uses either a jelly roll or yardage. The last session will be a bonus project to use up the scraps leftover from the Adventureland Quilt. The project is a Scottie Dog pattern using 2.5” squares to form an adorable Scottie stuffed animal to keep or donate to NIH Children’s Inn. This is a free pattern from Denyse Schmidt Quilts that will be provided to the students.  This three-session class starts on March 19th.

Starting on April 20th, Kat will show you how fun and easy curves can be with Latifah Saafir's Glam Clam Pattern and Clammy Ruler.

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have placemat kits available at the shop; please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disasters. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
