What's New at CQ 3/3/26

Dear Friends,

We are prepping for our first show of the season!  I know, others have already started, but Lancaster-Lebanon will be our first of the year.  See our complete (so far) show schedule at the end of this newsletter.

No matter how much prep we do, we never feel that we are truly "ready".  Shows are a lot of work. They are hard on the staff, but we usually have fun. And, we always enjoy looking at work from other quilters and visiting with friends that we only get to see a couple of times a year. Do you go to shows? What's your favorite part?

Bonus question: What's the furthest you've traveled to see a quilt show?

Happy Sewing!

-Marianne

Products

From Wilmington Prints, we have Canvas Texture Essentials in 21 useful colors (white on white not shown, but is available)

I've brought in 6 prints and the fabulous border print from In The Beginning's Alice line.

As promised, we have new batting!

From Hobbs, there is 100% cotton, an 80/20 cotton/poly, a wool, and a cotton/wool blend.

From Pellon, we have either cotton or bamboo.

Please be aware that not all battings are available in the sizes you are used to, and may require quilting more densely than Quilters Dream.

Classes

Relax on the evening of Friday, March 6th with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos. Often, small challenges are put out to the group.

A seat has become available in Debra's Chic Country class! Use the Quick Curve Ruler to make this delightful throw.

Five seats are available in the March 16 Quilt of Valor afternoon Workshop. All fabric is provided, simply register, bring your machine & sewing toolkit, and join the group to make a quilt for a veteran!

If you've got basic longarming down, and want to use the computer for stitching instead of free motion, you will need to take Getting Started: ProStitcher Premium on March 17th. There is one seat available.

Jan wants you to know that the Adventureland Quilt is a fast and easy strip piecing design, perfect for the confident beginner or a seasoned quilter that wants a quick baby/throw  quilt to gift. The pattern provides for multiple sizes and uses either a jelly roll or yardage. The last session will be a bonus project to use up the scraps leftover from the Adventureland Quilt. The project is a Scottie Dog pattern using 2.5” squares to form an adorable Scottie stuffed animal to keep or donate to NIH Children’s Inn. This is a free pattern from Denyse Schmidt Quilts that will be provided to the students.  This three-session class starts on March 19th.

Starting on April 20th, Kat will show you how fun and easy curves can be with Latifah Saafir's Glam Clam Pattern and Clammy Ruler.

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have placemat kits available at the shop; please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disasters. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
