What's New at CQ 3/31/26

Dear Friends,

Please note that we will be closed this Sunday, April 5 in observance of Easter.

This will be of particular interest to those in Second Saturday, and those who are not, but have admired the two quilts behind the register. Candyce Copp Grisham, author of Dresden Quilt Blocks Reimagined, has agreed to come to Capital Quilts to do a book signing! This will be after her program at the Nimble Fingers Quilt Guild on May 5. If you are interested in this event, please register to attend by clicking the picture below. Light refreshements will be served.

Stacey Lee is hosting her 6th annual quilt donation drive to benefit Comfort Cases. The organization provides youth entering foster care with a Comfort Case, a backpack or small duffel bag filled with comfort and essential items for a child's first few nights in a new environment. Items included are a quilt or other blanket, pjs, a small stuffed animal, dental hygiene kits, toiletries, and a journal with pens or a coloring book with crayons. The plan is to sew in April and donate in May. We will accept your Comfort Case quilt donations during the month of May. Please visit https://www.stacey-lee.com/quilt-donation-drive-frequently-asked-questions/ for all of the necessary guidelines for the quilts, and a note to print out and include.

Thank you for being a part of our community. You make it possible for us to be here!

Products

I've brought in some neutrals and low volume bolts from P&B's Paint Pop collection. These are perfect for creating stunning quilt backgrounds or adding a coordinating sparkle to any sewing project.

The Willow Bend collection by Cassandra Zaniboni for Windham Fabrics draws inspiration from the adventurous spirit and rugged landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, blending deep hues from the forest with muted, sun-washed tones, wild florals, and woodland creatures.

P&B has also sent us several bolts of Sillier than Sally's Daydream blenders. These printed fabrics look so much like mottled batiks!

From Libs Elliott at Andover Fabrics, here are eight gorgeous bolts of blue from Glaze III. I think I've had jeans in every one of these colors at some point!

We have two more patriotic panels from the Stars & Stripes 14 collection by Linda Ludovico & Deborah Edwards in Support of Quilts of Valor Foundation for Northcott.

Finally, three delightful Speckles batiks from Anthology in red, white, and blue!

Classes

Relax this Friday night (4/3) with fellow quilters for our "Sew Together" virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters. Each month, a guest speaker shares her enthusiasm for an aspect of quilting – a designer, a technique, a hot topic -- with lots of inspiring ideas and photos. Often, small challenges are put out to the group.

Join Linda and our Quilt of Valor group on April 13th to make a quilt for a veteran touched by war. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. The group will make one quilt. All fabric is provided. Just register for the workshop, bring your sewing machine, supplies, and lots of energy!

Learn to Longarm! Our Getting Started: Longarm Rental Basics is being offered on April 16th. This class is required for anyone who wants to rent our longarm machines.

If you want to use computerized stitching, you will also need to take Getting Started: ProStitcher Premium, also on the 16th.

Starting on April 20th, Kat will show you how fun and easy curves can be with Latifah Saafir's Glam Clam Pattern and Clammy Ruler.

The bucket hat is back on April 26th, and you have time to make a wardrobe of them before it gets truly hot. Linda will take you through making a reversible bucket hat. In class you will have the option to cut on your own or use the Accuquilt die.

Quilting with rulers is a wonderful way to add curved designs to your quilting repertoire. Bored with your walking foot and intimidated by full-on free motion quilting? Ruler work is an ideal compromise to create precise yet interesting stitching on your quilts using your domestic machine. In this 5-week class starting May 30th, you will make a 9-block sampler of ruler work designs.  At the end, you’ll learn a quilt-as-you-go method for joining the blocks together.

Don't forget that we offer Sandwiching Services (quilt basting) every month. Typically, four "appointments" are available each month.

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have placemat kits available at the shop; please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.
Thank you for your continued support of the Capital Quilts Cares program.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disasters. To quilters, they are a great beginner project, a use for leftover fabric, and a place to practice free motion skills. To use your stash, visit www.kennelquilts.com
