There are new quilts up in the gallery! Our Quilts of Valor group has generously lent us seven quilts to display for Flag Day, and they will be up through the 4th of July.

If art quilts are your thing, you won't want to miss Studio Art Quilt Association's "Connecting with Nature" exhibition at The Mansion at Strathmore, running from June 20th to July 31st. This exhibition showcases innovative contemporary quilts that celebrate the art form’s dynamic evolution. Featuring work by members of Studio Art Quilt Associates, a global community of more than 4,000 artists, teachers, and collectors, the show highlights hand-dyed fabrics, bold surface techniques, and inventive approaches to textile design. Several CQ customers and/or staff are participating! There is an Opening Reception on June 25th.

We will be at The Annapolis Quilt Guild's "Quilts by the Bay" Quilt Show this Friday and Saturday at the Riva Trace Baptist Church in Davidsonville.

Here are the sticky quilting papers that I mentioned a few weeks ago, and based on your interest, have brought into the shop.

Quilting Made Easy patterns help beginning quilters feel comfortable with quilting their own quilts. Experienced quilters also appreciate the ease of use and elimination of the step of marking a quilt before quilting. All the patterns in the #100 series are geared towards beginning machine quilters. Because the feed dogs are not dropped and the machine can control the stitch length, the results are professional looking giving the quilter the confidence to proceed to free-motion quilting (200, 300 & 400 series patterns). For the border designs, corner patterns and instructions are included in the core or printed on the pattern strip. Block designs and all-over or "stipple" designs are also available. Quilting Made Easy patterns can be used with your home sewing machine and Longarm quilters can use these patterns as a pantograph.

Classes

Relax on the first Friday of the month (7/3) with fellow quilters for a virtual quilting bee. Settle into your favorite sewing space with your favorite Zoom-compatible technology for 2 hours of stitching and chatting. Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they’ve been working on and pose questions to the other quilters.

Learn to Longarm! Our Getting Started: Longarm Rental Basics is being offered on July 7th. This class is required for anyone who wants to rent our longarm machines.

If you want to use computerized stitching, you will also need to take Getting Started: ProStitcher Premium, also on the 7th.

Our next CQ Cares: Quilts for Kids workshop will be held on July 8th. All fabric is provided; just register and bring your machine with basic sewing supplies.

Join Linda and our Quilt of Valor group on July 13th to make a quilt for a veteran touched by war. These quilts are tremendously important to the men and women who serve our country in the military. The group will make one quilt. 

Rod's Sharpening Service sharpens knives of all types (even serrated!), household and utility scissors, beauty salon and barbers' shears, and most garden tools. Their precision sharpening system ensures the correct angle for your knife, thus extending the life of the blade--it will cut just like new. They can also repair some defects such as chipped blades or bent tips (additional fees may apply).

Joan from Bucklebee Tools is coming back this fall to teach her "Happy Feet" sneaker class! We have spaces available on Friday, September 25. (Saturday is now sold out.) Spend the day making a pair of real sneakers, with quilted uppers and rubber soles. If you’ve been saving a bit of favorite fabric for a special project, Happy Feet sneakers are absolutely special. Your class fee covers your seat in class, instruction, soles, insoles, eyelets, instruction book, and cardstock pattern. Shoelaces will be available to purchase from the instructor.

Joan is once again offering a Sneakers Studio Session on Sunday, September 27. This session will not have any formal instruction, and is intended for those who have already made sneakers, and are looking for time and/or tools to make/finish more.

Don't forget that we offer Sandwiching Services (quilt basting) every month. Typically, four "appointments" are available each month.

CQ Cares (Community Sewing Projects)

We have free pillowcase kits available! We donate all pillowcases to Ryan's Case for Smiles, who in turn distributes them to children battling serious illness. Pick one up next time you're in the shop, then complete it and return on your schedule. Alternately, use your stash and any of the Million Pillowcase Project patterns.

We have placemat kits available at the shop; please stop by to pick up one (or two). For those who want to sew from their stash, click on the picture for the beginner-friendly Charm Square Placemats pattern, or you can use your own pattern.

Please return all completed placemats to Capital Quilts.

We have free small kennel quilts kits available. These little quilts are sent to shelters who take in pets displaced by natural disasters.
