M&S Textiles Australia was founded with the dream of empowering the Australian Aboriginal Designs to create on-demand, custom-designed textiles. Australian Aboriginal or Indigenous designs are colorful, vibrant and decorative. It is one of the longest continuing traditional arts in the world.
This tradition goes back to over 50,000 years. In early days, the Aboriginal people performed cave painting, rock painting, sand or ground painting, etc. At present the Aboriginal artworks are sought after items both in Australia and worldwide. Since 1990, M&S Textiles Australia is the largest manufacturer of Australian Aboriginal designs printed on good quality 100% cotton fabric. They source our fabrics from 100% natural cotton & eco-friendly manner.
At M&S Textiles Australia, all the designs are created by Australian Aboriginal artists and their experience with the Dreamtime. The designs are crafted using only the colors seen in nature; because of this, their fabrics work very well together with other fabrics. During the process of converting the original artwork to the printed fabrics, they work very closely with the mill to replicate the ideas and intentions of the artists. This is their way of paying the respect to the artist. Further, M&S Textiles licenses each artwork showcased on the website and pays a fair share of the price to the artist or the aboriginal community.
Most of the Aboriginal designs printed by M&S Textiles have a Dreamtime story to tell. According to Aboriginal mythology, dreamtime is the time when the world was dark. There was nothing on earth. Soil was soft, their forefathers sprang up from underneath the soil and started building most of the requirement for their future generations; e.g. they built mountains, rivers, waterholes, trees, light gardens and many more. The Dreamtime is not a religion or cult; it is the way of living or a philosophy of living. Body painting, corroboree, men’s business, women’s business etc. are strictly obeyed by the Aboriginal people. Aboriginal used to be nomadic; they used to collect foods from nature, by hunting and gathering. However, they never do anything to hoard or spoil the nature. They used to honour their ancestral lands or environment. Today, many Aboriginals get a good education.

Capital Quilts is honored to carry these beautiful fabrics.
